Sport in Medellin is varied and fun. Learn about different alternatives both in and around the city.

Picture the possibilities for doing sport in Medellin and the surrounding area; the varying landscape from glacial mountain regions to rain forest and desert.

Consider the abundance of rivers, high altitude temperate climates and coastlines on both the Pacific and Atlantic (Caribbean) oceans.

There are coral reefs, pristine beaches, numerous islands, hills and mountains that all form fantastic sports opportunities.

Additionally, in the city there are plenty of possibilities for swimming, playing tennis, doing track and field, even scuba diving in the lakes around Medellin.

There is horse riding, hiking, paragliding and golf. Something for everyone and the trick is to find out where to go.

PERSONALIZED TRAINING

Why not consider personalized training as an option for doing sport in Medellin?

I have known Hector for 5 years through the Country Club Ejecutivos, where I have been a member for as many years. Hector is one of the trainers in the gym and in my opinion, the best.

Every year I return to Medellin for the summer, he creates a highly effective and fun routine for me. He's a great guy, very honest and totally dependable. I would like to endorse his personalized services 100%.

Hector offers personalized training and specializes in the following areas:

Pilates
Aerobics
Stretching and flexibility improvement
Tae-Bo
Spinning
Conditioning (strengthening and muscular toning)
Weight loss
Stress reduction
Hydro Gymnastics

Hector offers training under the following condition:

- In your own apartment (or in the gym in the building)
- The nearest gym to your location (he knows the city well)
- At your hotel (Hector can arrange this with management)
- Parks and public sports grounds

He charges the following rates:

1 hour - COP 30.000
12 classes (12x hours over 4 weeks) - COP 340.000

Hector works with people of all ages and levels and and can assign exercise for specific ailments such as problems with knees, your back, shoulders etc.

He has 11 years of experience as a trainer and has been an active sportsman his entire life in addition to being certificated in all the above mentioned fields.

You can contact him by email or reach him on his cell phone given above to arrange classes.

TENNIS

As far as sport in Medellin is concerned, tennis has recently become a passion for me and there are excellent clay courts at Estadio. Estadio (Stadium) is as you'd imagine a venue for a number of different sporting leagues and clubs.

At Estadio you will find the best tennis store in Medellin called Liga de Tenis located at:
Liga Antioquenia de Tenis de Campo
Calle 49 No.73-04
Mon – Fri 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sat 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is where the pros and instructors go, the pricing is good and the wonderful couple who run the store are helpful and knowledgeable. (Their son has a full scholarship to study in the US while pursuing a tennis career so they know a thing or two about the sport)

You can buy or have rackets restrung and they carry a good selection of specialized tennis equipment.

This is also one of the best places to play or have tennis lessons in Medellin.
