Hands down one of the best restaurants in Medellin for a number of factors.
Firstly, they serve fine Italian focusing on quality, fresh produce and good pastas. Secondly, the location (right next to Bakuba) is superb with outdoor seating and a quiet, relaxed ambiance. Thirdly, the service is professional and very friendly which makes this a good family restaurant.
They serve a good selection of pastas and thin crust pizza. Enjoy a long lunch, sip at your wine and take in the mood.
In an old house downtown, with many windows and two balconies overlooking the street, we find this Restaurant/ Bar. It's spacious and fresh. The ambiance is tropical, simple yet decorative with dishes that make up part of the pacific Colombian folklore. Everything is delightful. The music, almost always “salsa” and Cuban sounds, is soft and rhythmic during the day and picks up at night.
Here they prepare and serve dishes till they closing time, so you can both dance rumba and eat for as long as you like. The food is delicious. The beautiful and gentle chef is Deyanira Becerra, from Atrato, Chocó, from where she brings all the secrets of her culinary art. She is very enthusiastic about her work, clearly to the satisfaction of all the guests as they enjoy her exquisite dishes.
They serve a great variety of fish and shellfish; stewed, fried or gratinated, served with classic rich coconut rice, consomé, tasty “patacones” (flat, fried green plantains) prepared with avocado, salad and to drink, refreshing juices. The delicious prawns are are the most expensive at 35.000 pesos. The daily menu costs 9.000 pesos that will leave you completely satisfied.
Both during the day as much as in the evening, Mar y Cuba is an excellent option for, as it’s slogan says: “Gathering the pleasures of life”.
LeBon Café (In Parque Lleras)
Calle 9 39-09
Colombia - Antioquia, Medellín
Teléfonos : (57) (4) 2668872
LeBon is probably as close to a French café as you will find in Medellin from it’s decoration to choice of cultural and arts based magazines and periodicals. It is a definite counterpoint to much of the other choices in Parque Lleras are far more "glossy" on the whole.
This is a charming cafe with a calm atmosphere, especially for breakfast and lunch. There are frequently other travelers or expats who go there and if you want to dream of distant shores for a while this may be just the place.
The menu consists of a good selection of light dishes including omelettes, salads, crepes and soups.
They also serve rich, dark coffee and have a full bar.
Highly recommended for lunch but also good for dinner.
Café Colombo (Tel: 513 4444 ext.169)
El Colombo Americana, 10th Floor (Located downtown)
Carrera 45 No. 53 - 24
M - F 12:00 am - 2:30 pm / 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Sat 12:00 a.m. - 11 p.m.
www.colomboworld.com Cafe Colombo is located on the 10th floor in the Colombo Americano, a cultural institution with a library and bookstore with English books, cinemas showing independent and art film and a number of resources such as an art gallery. It is an excellent resource in Medellin.
(Don´t worry, it always fills up, I took this picture in the early morning.)
With a view over the city and a nice touch of elegance, this is a good place to take your time and relax over lunch while avoiding the hustle and bustle of downtown Medellin.
The menu is what I call modern Colombian and they offer the menu del dia (3-course set menu. Fairly inexpensive.)
Alternatively, choose between Mediterranean, French, Italian and Spanish.
Either before or after your meal, you can browse their bookstore, library, art gallery or take in an indie movie.
A must see!
Flores y Sabores (Tel: 254 4938)
Carrera 50 # 59-15
12:00am - 2:30pm (Monday - Friday)
restaurantefloresysabores@gmail.com
Located in Prado, an area of town right next to El Centro (downtown) this is a perfect inexpensive restaurant to visit for lunch.
Run by the charming Angela, here you can enjoy the menu-del-dia (menu of the day) that normally consists of a soup followed by a choice of meat or fish for the main course.
Prado is an interesting part of Medellin due to its old buildings that comprised what was once a prime location.
Bahia Mar - Seafood (Tel: 312 1169) Calle 10 - #33-27 El Poblado close to Parque Lleras
This one I discovered recently and it gets two big thumbs up! A small seafood restaurant with only outdoor seating right on the Calle 10 that serves delicious food typical of the coast which is where the cooks are from so they know their stuff. Coconut rice is typical and fish tends to be fried here unless if you go for the large tiger prawns in garlic or a soup. Anguilla is a good light beer from the coast that goes well with the food. (Also do takeout) | |
