Learning Spanish Like Crazy
The course is designed to teach conversational Spanish in Latin America which is what you need if visiting Colombia. The difference between actually being able to speak a language and knowing the grammar are huge, so for the sake of practicality, this is a good approach.
It begins right off the bat as an audio course where you repeat after the examples. It moves fairly quickly but gets you into speaking during the very first lesson.
Explanations are given along the way. First you do, ie. speak, and then they give the specific reason for why you should say such and such.
Transcribed excerpt from the course:
Try to say say, "we don't speak"
- No hablamos / Nosotros no hablamos
Now say they don't speak:
-No hablan, ellos no hablan
How do you say, they don't speak, referring to a group of females?
- Ellas no hablan
And so on, beginning with making statements in the present tense, followed by making questions.
Slowly, the lessons build up, adding more vocabulary. The pacing is good, you get into it and the pronunciation is excellent and by a native Spanish speaker as opposed to a foreigner with a strange accent. They speak fairly quickly which may seem a bit tricky at first, but honestly, a lot of Colombians speak extremely quickly so you may just as well get used to it.
