Finding cheap tickets can be difficult. Here are some tips about airlines and airports for getting to Medellin.
Several airlines offer flights to Medellin but the trick to getting cheap tickets is to book far in advance.
Although it is an idea to think of specific airlines and routes that will be mentioned below, times have changed and it is possible to search all options through the internet in order to find the best and cheapest possible flight as I am going to explain.
The search tool to the right named KAYAK is the best service I know of for finding cheap flights.
It compares all major flight search sites and gives a list of the cheapest tickets available from these.
Give it a try to compare prices.
Write in your departure city and the destination (most likely Bogota, Medellin or anywhere for that matter), the dates and press search to see the results.
Give it a second or two as it searches a huge number of different options to find the cheapest offers.
If you prefer however to plan your flight based on city choices or to know about the different available options read on to get an idea of the major routes and airlines.
Important note about buying cheap tickets from Bogota to Medellin:
I recommend buying your ticket from Bogota to Medellin in Bogota because it is cheaper than purchasing the tickets oversees.
Avianca and Aerorepublica are the two major competitors and are equal in price but may vary depending on seat availability.
Here is information on the major cities in the U.S. and Europe that have flights to Medellin and Bogota.
From the U.S. there are two major cities that offer flights directly to Medellin.
From Europe there are two major cities that offer cheap tickets to Medellin via the Colombian capital Bogota.
Madrid
Paris
The major airlines are:
Iberia
Air France
KLM
Iberia tends to be the cheapest (Many Colombians reside in Spain) so getting to Madrid and flying to Bogota from there is most likely your best option. Note that the flights fill up quickly so book your tickets early.
Air France is an alternative but normally more expensive.
Special note: Please avoid arriving late in Bogota as you may miss your connecting flight to Medellin and have to deal with the hassle of finding a hotel for the night. I strongly recommend arriving in Medellin early in the day it΄s simply more comfortable.
