Before getting to breakfast specifics, allow me to share a few things about Colombians. Many drink juice with every meal and have an excellent selection of them - fruits and berries that is - that really do make some of the best juices I have ever had. Highly recommended with your breakfast.

Cra. 36 No.7-52
El Poblado
This is a charming little café that sells delicious pastry and excellent coffee in an area that recently acquired a unique charm. There is even a small fountain outside the venue.
Imagine warm pastry with cheese and ham or Guayaba filling. There are now 5 other cafes in the chain in Medellin but this particular one is 50m from Kasa Kiwi Hostel and a 5 minute walk from Parque LLeras.
DESAYUNADERO LA 10 (Tel: 2661515)
Calle 10 40-44
Colombia - Antioquia, Medellín
Located on the "Diez" heading up the hill from Avenida el Poblado toward Parque LLeras, Desayunadero la 10 serves, in my opinion, possibly the best classic breakfast in Medellin. Wooden tables surround a courtyard in this family friendly place that boasts classic Spanish architecture where the service is unpretentious and warm.
Generally speaking, I find other guests are of a certain type: friendly, often with children and down to earth if you get the picture.
The food is straight forward; eggs any style, bacon, arepa (Colombian corn bread), white bread, beans, juices, coffee and hot chocolate.
The only drawback is that the noise levels tend to be on the high side from the heavily trafficated Calle 10 but with the recent roadworks, re-directing of traffic and implementation of wider sidewalks this will hopefully improve.
Well worth a visit!

Excellent location with some of the best outdoor seating in town. They sell pastry with ham and cheese, cheese and mushrooms or Guayaba filling (a sweet fruit) along with cinnamon rolls, muffins, brownies and pan au chocolate.
For lunch they also serve excellent salads such as the Caesar (with or without chicken) and a selection of sandwiches with potato chips (crisps for the British) on the side. All delicious.
Their juices and coffees are good too.
Hotel El PobladoFruit again and… eggs in any shape or form, excellent American-style pancakes, bacon if you desire, good selection of white breads (Colombia is not big on the wholegrain culture) and excellent coffee.
Right next to the fancy Oviedo Mall where you can shop till you drop, watch a movie or go to the excellent supermarket there that belongs to the Pomona chain.
La FruiteraFruit, fruit and more fruit. Fresh as can be and a healthy start to the day. Banana split, just fruit, juices of all kinds, the Salpicon that is a mixture of diced fruit served with or without cream.
Great views of the city!
Enjoy your breakfast amigos!
