Attractions such as museums and galleries are not the strongest assets of Medellin, possibly because it is not yet a major tourist destination.
With the exception of the Botero museum there are other attractions in Medellin that are far more enjoyable and interesting than the typical tourist sites. Nevertheless, do check out the Botero museum if you are interested in art.
Museo de Antioquia (Botero Museum)
| The museum lies in the very heart of Medellin and is dedicated to the work of Fernando Botero. Approaching the building you walk through the Plaza de las Sculpturas (Sculptures Square) that features 23 of the artistīs sculptures. The square gives you a feel for the mixture that is Colombia and Medellin. New meets old, rich meets poor, art meets street vendors. The museum, an excellent art space in itself, shows 118 of Boteroīs works. Additionally, there are roughly 500 works from the 19/20th centuries from the region and Colombia. There is also an excellent restaurant with outdoor seating but note that it can be fairly warm in the sun and the center does become trafficated as the day progresses, so it might be an idea to eat inside.
